Breaking the Fast with Breakfast

Spice up your morning routine with…oatmeal. Wait, what? Yes, you read that correctly; I said spice up your morning routine with oatmeal! I’m not sure how or why it happened, but poor oatmeal has gotten a bad rep for being bland and frankly ugly. Well, I am here to challenge your opinion on the delicious food that is oatmeal! While I recently did a post on using oatmeal in an exfoliating facial scrub (Read Here), this morning I am talking about using it as the perfect breakfast to start your day.

I grew up eating oatmeal and have never been able to stop. If I do not get my morning oatmeal, I am sad; my morning is just not the same, and the reason behind my adoration of this breakfast is that I spice it up!

I start with classic Old Fashion oatmeal, no one minute quick stuff for this girl! I spend a soothing five minutes standing at my kitchen stove stirring my oatmeal, and contemplating the day ahead of me. This morning routine calms me and prepares me for the day ahead, similarly to morning yoga. After the oats are completely cooked, I add various fruits…frozen organic blueberries (you can buy them in bulk from Costco for a more economical price), a half of a banana, and a few raisins. Next I add some nuts…almonds, pecans, and walnuts. The added protein from the nuts help to keep me full until lunch time. Lastly, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey complete my delicious morning breakfast.
